Market Samurai Rules for Adult
Market Samurai comes pre-configured for mainstream use, unless certain tweaks are made to the standard "golden rules" it will be much harder to use it for adult keyword research. We have developed our own rules which make keyword research for adult marketing much easier.
Requirements for this lesson.
1. We assume you own a copy of Market Samurai. If you do not you can download the trial version.
2. You need an Adwords Account for keyword generation, generating keywords without one will not provide you enough of them.
3. You will have watched the Market Samurai training videos and be familiar with basic Market Samurai use.
Launch Market Samurai.
Launch Market Samurai with a New Project. You should be presented with a window like the one above.
Fill out Project Settings.
Enter your project keyword and title. In this case we have chosen "live sex chat" as an example. You can enter any keywords here, the point of this lesson is to tweak our rules and filters, not a case study of a particular keyword research exercise.
1. Enter your keyword into the Keyword field and hit the tab key, the rest will be filled out for you.
2. Use the drop down box to include adult content. This is very important.
3. Click Create to begin your project.
Market Samurai is Ready
We are interested in the Keyword Research module, so we need to take ourselves into it.
1. You can click the Keyword Research button in the main pane.
2. You can also click the Keyword Research tab in the left hand column.

Market Samurai is now ready for the keyword research process to begin.
1. Your seed keyword "live sex chat" should appear in the top tab.
2. You should be using a Google Adwords account to generate lots of keywords.
3. Click Generate Keywords to produce your initial list.

Market Samurai should now present you with a long list of keywords. In this example Market Samurai has produced 277 keywords. It is possible to filter this list further by adding positive or negative keywords however for this example we will simply move on to Keyword Analysis.
1. Click the Keyword Analysis button.
Keyword Analysis
Market Samurai displays the Keyword Analysis portion of the Keyword Research module. As a default Market Samurai comes with a preset filter called the "Golden Rules". If you do not understand what the "Golden Rules" are then it’s probably a good idea to watch the Market Samurai Training Videos before continuing.
The adult web has massive competition for keywords however it is still possible to attain a good ranking for high competition keywords with adult websites as most of the websites using the keywords lack basic on page SEO at best or are just keyword farms at worst. It is not uncommon to find TGP sites or Tube Sites stuffing keywords into their text. It is therefore possible to easily outrank these types of sites simply by following on page SEO best practice and catering to the ‘surfer’ with relevant, quality content.
When using Market Samurai for adult purposes we need to tweak Market Samurai to the realities of the adult world. We do this in a number of ways which will result in a new set of rules.
Changing the Rules
As we can see here, Market Samurai is using the default Golden Rules. These rules don’t work too well for the realities of adult niches. So we’re going to tweak the Golden Rules.
The Market Samurai Commerciality information is not accurate enough to be considered for adult websites. Adwords Value does not apply as Adwords is not used by most adult sites. SEO Value is also inaccurate as there is no consideration in this value for most adult revenue streams. Relying on the Commerciality filters for keyword analysis in Market Samurai will lead you to make assumptions which are not correct.
1. Untick both the Adwords Value check box and the SEO Value check box.
2. Untick the Adwords CPC check box to remove the Adwords CPC column from Keyword Analysis.
We also need to adjust the SEO Traffic and the SEO Competition filters which apply for our Keyword Analysis. Chasing SEO Traffic numbers any less than 100 is virtually pointless with Adult, numbers below 100 fluctuate wildly and are not a good indication of traffic being delivered by using a keyword with an SEO Traffic score of under 100. As mentioned previously, we are able to chase higher competition keywords in adult because so many web pages have lousy on page SEO, therefore it’s possible to rank for keywords with higher competition than would be possible with most mainstream keywords, therefore we want to adjust the SEO Competition filter from 100000 to 500000.
1. Adjust the SEO Traffic filter from 50 to 100.
2. Adjust the SEO Competition filter from 100000 to 500000.
3. Click the Disk Icon which is a Save Button.
Save your Adult Golden Rules
You will be asked if you want to create a new filter or overwrite an existing filter. We will create a new filter called Adult Golden Rules.
1. Check the Save as new filter with name option.
2. Enter Adult Golden Rules into the text field.
3. Click Save.
Keyword Analysis with Adult Golden Rules
Now you will have a new rule available in the rules drop down box which allows you to perform Keyword Analysis using our new Adult Golden Rules.
1. Select Adult Golden Rules to use them for adult Keyword Analysis.
2. Click Analyze Keywords to perform Keyword Analysis.
Each of the resulting keywords after applying these filters is able to be targeted with a very good chance of ranking highly in Google.

Also any suggestions for optimizing an adult toy store with 7k products? I’m thinking of scaling down the amount of products we carry and manually optimizing all of the descriptions (the titles and meta description are already done).

You can use Adwords to promote Adult Sites however it’s use is highly restrictive.. You cannot however display Adsense ads on an adult site as per this policy.
If you have a large adult store with thousands of products then optimizing that store can be difficult. There are specific considerations that need to be taken into account for very large sites, where presumably not much changes between one page and the next except the actual product. You might want to take a read of this article about scripting methods that can be employed to help differentiate pages on large sites.
Thanks Adult King! I appreciate the insight. I’ve been reading how difficult it is to do SEO on large eCommerce sites. We’ll I’ll give it a go and see how things go. Traffic for us right now is just pitiful.
